Foundation Library Takes Shape
Foundation Library (FL) is one of the latest projects of The Fomunyoh Foundation
(TFF) at its headquarters in Bamenda, Cameroon. The 25,000 book collection
covers the areas of health, computers, business and management, law, social
sciences, science, engineering, English, physics and math at all levels of
education: nursery, primary, secondary and high schools, and universities at the
graduate, post-graduate and doctorate levels. Some of the books are being
distributed to learning institutions around the country. Already in line are
nursery, primary and secondary schools in the Northwest Region, the Catholic and
Presbyterian Universities of Bamenda and the University of Maroua in the extreme
north. It is also hoped that this library will be of use to the students and
staff of the newly created State University of Bamenda.
Recently, TFF Founder and President, Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh
inaugurated the law component of the Foundation Library. This collection of
recent titles by West Law Publishing on environmental law, tort, intellectual
property, copyright law, sport law, business law, international law, legal
ethics and drafting, patent law, criminal law and procedure, constitutional law,
alternative dispute resolution and many others is at the service of lawyers,
magistrates/judges, human rights activists, law students and researchers
within/and outside of Cameroon.
On his motivation for the Library project, Dr. Chris told the press in the TFF
office in Bamenda, "It was born of our mission here at The Fomunyoh Foundation
to be able to help raise citizen awareness and provide avenues for Cameroonians
to discuss issues such as democracy, good governance, rule of law, human rights.
It will also give our younger generation, which has become hooked to the
internet, the opportunity to return to the traditional culture of reading; the
ability to be able to go into a community library, check out a book in a subject
area, read it for a couple of weeks and return the book.
