Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh named “Personality of the Year".

The President of The Fomunyoh Foundation, TFF, who also serves as Senior Associate and Regional Director for Central and West Africa at the Washington National Democratic Institute, NDI, was personally present to receive the award in Nkambe headquarters of Donga Mantung Division in the North West Region of Cameroon.

According to Fai Cassian Ndi, publisher of The Eye Newspaper and organizer of the Awards, the Choice of Dr. Fomunyoh was due to his "…exceptional leadership skills, democracy and ardent promoter of sustainable development in African communities."

Since 2000, Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh launched The Fomunyoh Foundation (www.tffcam.org) to support humanitarian causes and democratization efforts in Cameroon. To this effect the Foundation Charity caravan has this far been to seven of the country’s ten Regions including the Littoral, Center, West, Adamawa, North, Far North and the North West Regions. During these visits the Foundation either supported humanitarian and developmental initiatives or provided its modest support to the needy as was the case in March 2015 when it was in Maroua in the Far North Region where the Foundation provided both material and financial support to internally displaced children, victims of Boko Haram exactions. The Foundation’s office is in Bamenda, North West Region.


In his acceptance speech, an overwhelmed Dr. Fomunyoh said such recognitions would only go a long way the encourage the Foundation that he heads redouble its efforts.

Other recipients among others included the Mayor of Nkambe Ngabir paul Mbinkar, as the most innovative mayor of the year, Tanjoh Fridrick, best Mayor Momo Division, Hon. Njimoun Mussa as Politician of the year, Dr. Ndonwi Peter;political philanthropist of the year and Ndansi Elvis, who is youth leader of the NUDP party, voted as Donga Mantung personality of the year.

The award ceremony took a different twist when over 15 traditional rulers from Bui and Donga Mantung Divisions led by the over 90-year old Fon of Nkambe, Ibrahim Jabu Nfor, conferred and clad with the traditional title of "Ta'a Nformi Cameroon" – (Hunter for Cameroonians) on Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh.


On the sideline of the award ceremony was The Eye Newspaper "Clean Community Program", winner of the 2015 2degrees award. Wheelbarrows, spades and cutlasses were donated to various communities to support environmental-friendly initiatives.

The ceremony was presided over by the Senior Divisional Officer of Donga Mantung; Ngone Messape Bernard, in the presence of his deputies, the Divisional Officer for Nkambe Central, Abba Abdouraman and religious dignitaries.

Mokun Njouny Nelson
