Higher Education authorities review syllabus
March 20, 2014

Cameroon's Minister of Higher Education says there was an urgent need to revise the curriculum of universities and other institutions of higher learning in the country. Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo was speaking in Yaounde, March 18, 2014 during workshop to validate a 2012 survey on the professional insertion of higher education degree holders in Cameroon.

Opinion has been unanimous that the standards of education in Cameroon, especially that of higher education has been falling over the years. A situation made catastrophic following the liberalization of the sector and the consequent proliferation of private institutions of higher learning whose course content has been put to doubt even by the Cameroon state authorities that granted the authorizations in the first place.

A recent decision by the Minister of Higher Education suspended medical training offered by some of these institutions. This unfortunate situation has made certificates issued by Cameroon institutions doubted by foreign countries.
